Steampunk Music - Examples

Modern technology and the ætherweb be praised, here’s a tiny selection of Steampunk Music I can recommend:

Please enjoy!

Remember USS Macon

Today in 1935 USS Macon was lost to accident. She was the last of the giant airships like the Hindenburg to be used by the US Navy and the last flying aircraft carrier, with her complement of six Sparrowhawk biplanes.

Today we remember USS Macon.

And also the Sparrowhawk, the only parasite fighter to actually see regular service.

100 years of Salon de locomotion aerienne

This years Salon de locomotion aerienne, the Paris Air Show, will mark its 100th anniversary, there will be a bigger blog article on the day it starts (if I don’t forget) but for now, here are two very nice images from the first show in 1909:

Ah! My little steampunk heart ticks faster!

Steampunk Jump’n Run

Just a quick entry, because I will not have time for more today:

There is a iPod game comming up, already free for Mac, that has a cool retro and steampunk feel to it. Steampunk because of the obvious aesthetics and retro because it looks so much like a classic Jump’n Run from the C64 days… Ahhh… The days of my youth…

Check out the video and the website:

US Spy Blimp

According to various sources, the US military plans to deploy a high-altitude spy blimp for missions you need a spy-blimp for… As a Zeppelin Enthusiast™ I am looking forward to it and am quite excited about it.

As a military ley person, I ask myself: What can this expensive piece of equipment do that satellites and drones do not cover already?

Oh well… Government spending. Here’s a visual overview of planned capacities:

And as an added bonus for today. Check out this futile game (and tell me how often you played it before you gave up…)

The Travelers Steampunk Blog - Blogged

Dieselpunk World War II

What I consider really interesting, is the comperatively large number of videos on Youtube with a Dieselpunk theme. Quite a sizable fraction of thse deal with matters pertaining to World War II.

One such jewel was pointed out to me in the Smoking Lounge (see previous post) and it would be a shame not to share it here. Please note the quaint American accent of the German officer…

Retro Gaming

In the late 1990’s, oh dear, that’s already over a decade ago, I was a big fan of the games Myst and Riven. I just had a look at the two games again recently and one thing just jumped at me:

There are loads of Steampunk elements found in the game. I did a little bit of reading up and I am obviously not the first person to discover this. It would have been a shame if I had been the first… I also found out Myst was partially inspired by The Mysterious Island which obviously adds to the overall steampunkness (is that a noun?).

As my final point opf joy I discovered Myst is available for my iPod Touch, so now this very steampunk game really is right in the Third Millenium.

I leave you with some images which prove the point:

Sweet technology

Aaaah! The wonders of modern technology, coupled with the style of a more civilized age:

On the Ætherweb - Steampunk style

Ladies and Gentleman,

may I present this most marvelous steampunk contraption. A true beauty and work of art and genius. A fellow blogger brought it to my attention and I was so enthralled with it, I had to blog about it. This device really takes you from the World Wide Web into the ætherweb and lets you surf and browse in steampunk style.

This is the kind of thing every on-line steampunk should ebdevour to have (besides the steampunked laptop I featured on my Steampunk Æthetics page.

So, without further ado, here’s the steampunk ætherweb station:

What a beauty! More images are available behind the link above.
